Learning Telugu (తెలుగు) from Tamil is nearer to an extension of what you already know than a brand-new language — the sounds, the SOV grammar, and the writing work the same way — and your doorway to the melodious "Italian of the East", spoken across two states and the film industry. Both are written in Brahmic-derived scripts (Tamil and Telugu). The letters are new, but the reading logic is identical: consonants carry an inherent vowel, and vowel marks attached above, below, or beside change it. You will decode Telugu far faster than any learner from the Latin world. Word order will not fight you: both Tamil and Telugu put the verb at the end (subject-object-verb) and mark relations with postpositions after the noun — "in the house" is "house-in" in both. Your existing sentence instinct works almost unchanged. Both belong to the Dravidian family, which means shared grammar instincts: SOV order, postpositions, no phonemic aspiration, and verb building by suffixes. Vocabulary roots differ city to city, but the machinery already works in your head.
Both Tamil and Telugu place the verb at the end of a sentence (SOV). A neutral sentence translates across as "நான் தமிழ் கற்கிறேன்." → "నేను తెలుగు నేర్చుకుంటున్నాను.", which is exactly where the word-order discipline lives. Both languages mark relations with postpositions after the noun, so "in the house" is built as "house-in" in Telugu too. Gender behaves the same way in both (natural), so one less transfer skill.
Retroflex consonants (ṭ, ḍ, ṇ) already exist in Tamil, so your tongue knows the position — only the exact sounds differ.
Vowel length works like Tamil: short and long vowels are distinguished in Telugu too, so your ear already hears the difference.
ట/డ/ణ retroflex vs త/ద/న dental — Telugu keeps both sets distinct, as Tamil does. Curl the tongue for the retroflex pair.
No aspiration in native Telugu: k/g/p/b stay crisp; Hindi-style kh/gh usually appear only in loanwords.

தேவை என்பது "to me X wanted": எனக்கு நீள் வேண்டும். இல்லை "want" verb to conjugate — இறுதியில் தேவை வேண்டும்.
தெலுங்கு திரட்டுகள்: தினு (சாப்பிடு) + துன்னானு (am -ing) = சாப்பிடுனானு, போகு + துன்னா நீ. -துன்னா முற்போக்கான குறிப்பான் மற்றும் செயல்களை அவை நடக்கும் போது வெளிப்படுத்தவும்.

అప్పుడు నేను వెళ్ళాను. (wrong person ending)
నేను వెళ్ళాను. / వెళ్ళాడు for "he".
வினைமுடிவுகள் நபரை குறியாக்குகின்றன: -நான் (I), -ஆவு (you), -ஆடு/-ந்தி (he/she), -am (we). விஷயத்துடன் முடிவை சரியாகப் பொருத்தவும்.
నేను ఇంటికి పోతున్నాను వెళ్ళడానికి.

Refreshingly light in two ways: no articles and no arbitrary gender for the thousands of non-human nouns. The main work is suffixes (plural -లు, dative -కి, person endings) and SOV order. Most learners find verbs the biggest but most regular task.
Telugu letters are the roundest of the Brahmic family (historically squared-off shapes softened into curves) and some ligatures are complex. The logic is the same as Kannada's — they are sister scripts — so learning Kannada opens Telugu and vice versa.
Nineteenth-century linguists compared Telugu's vowel-rich, vowel-final rhythm to Italian — almost every word ends in a vowel. Match the "v→w" glide and drawn-out vowels and your Telugu will immediately sound melodic and natural.
